I have had a major challenge throughout my young life with handling loud sounds! Several things were tried to help me including the Tomatis Method of listening therapy, wearing noise-canceling headphones and Auditory Integration Training. The music programs helped me. The first one, Tomatis at the CP Center, was good, but my brother and I were able to manipulate the music through hitting the CD player when we didn't like certain sounds. The music would skip and we didn't have to hear it. The music was modulated so I could get used to hearing loud noises. I listened to the music during Occupational Therapy at the CP Center and at home each day. I was 6 years-old a that time. I still struggled with loud sounds so we tried another therapy called Auditory Integration Training. It also involved listening to modulated music. I went to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor to get an audiogram first to see what my level of hearing really was. It show that my hearing was very sensitive, like a person with superhuman hearing. The machine was programmed to address the frequencies of my hearing challenges. I received the therapy two times a day for 30 minute sessions for 10 days. I did this therapy three times in my life. After the third time, it seemed to help the most. AIT helped me to not be so fearful and overwhelmed around loud noises, which is great especially that now I love to go to sporting events and concerts!
I'm looking forward to hearing from you or your child that struggles whenever there are loud noises.
My love of sports has been very important to me. It all started when my Dad took me to my first Packers football game and that is what helped me get into sports. It was entertaining and relaxing for me to watch which ended up turning around my life. It makes me calm down inside my body. I started liking sports when I was 10 years old and continue to have that same passion today.
Please comment on what you guys think about my strong passion for sports.
